Guilford Family and Friends,

It is hard to believe that there are only 10 days left of school! Everyone has worked so very hard this year and we could not be any prouder.

Each year, we find ourselves having to say farewell to a few staff who are either retiring or leaving for other reasons. It is sad to see them go, but we wish them well!

  • Mrs. Wolter (PE) - Retiring

  • Mrs. Shaul (2nd Gr) - Retiring

  • Miss Dussing (Sped) - Moving to NY

  • Mrs. Colavita (K Para) - Moving to CA

  • Miss Steinhorn (4th Gr) - Off to new adventures

Please check your homes and cars for any media books or Chromebook power cords. We need all of these items to be returned safely to our school!

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend and enjoy some fresh air.

~Mrs. Lannon, Principal

Chromebook Storage

HCPSS has been fortunate to have a 1:1 device ratio for most of our students. As we come to the end of the 2021-2022 school year, we will implement the following summer 2022 Chromebook storage and use process for specified grade levels.

Grade Level

Summer 2022 Storage and Use

Students and families will keep their Chromebooks over the summer in order for students who attend HCPSS Summer Programs, including Extended School Year RECC, and continue to access Family Connections.

Grades K-4

Student Chromebooks will be stored at school over the summer. Each student’s assigned Chromebook will be returned to them for use during the 2022-2023 school year.

Grade 5

Students will keep their Chromebooks over the summer and take them to their assigned middle school at the start of the 2022-2023 school year.

All students participating in a HCPSS Summer Program, including Extended School Year ESY and ESY-RECC special education, may take their Chromebooks with them for the summer so that they can be used during their program. At the conclusion of HCPSS Summer Programs, students will keep their Chromebooks for the remainder of the summer and take them to their assigned school at the start of the 2022-2023 school year.

Students not returning to HCPSS should return their Chromebook to their home school on or before the last day of school for students. Please look for additional information from your child’s homeroom teacher regarding end of year procedures for Chromebooks.

Dreambox and Lexia

Please note that students will no longer have access to Dreambox beginning July 1, 2022.  Access will be turned off on June 30, 2022. Students also will not have access to Lexia after July 31, 2022.

Summer Meals

HCPSS will continue providing free meals to all HCPSS students and any children aged 18 and under, weekdays from June 27-Aug. 12, with the exception of July 4 and 19. Full details, including site locations, can be found online.

Clothing to Cash

Guilford ES is participating in the Clothing to Cash Recycling Program. This program will help our school raise money. You will notice the white and green bin that is located in the side parking lot near the dumpsters. We accept new and used clothing, shoes, sneakers, towels, and textiles. We want items in ALL conditions unwanted, outgrown, and out of style.

All items must be in a plastic bag and tied shut. Collections will be reworn, repurposed or finally recycled. Save our landfills and give your items a second life. Help support our school and save the environment one bag at a time!

14th Annual Howard County Family Wellness Day

The 14th Annual Howard County Family Wellness Day on Sunday, June 19th from 8:30am to 1pm at Centennial Park South, brings together the entire community, challenging every organization, public and private, and every citizen, to make a commitment to healthy living.

With games, crafts, and performances along with vital health screenings, and health education, Family Wellness Day is a total community collaboration. HC Family Wellness Day.pdf

Harris Teeter Together in Education Program

Harris Teeter’s Together In Education program gives schools, like Guilford ES, a chance to earn funds when you link your VIC card and shop Harris Teeter brands. Harris Teeter has donated over $30 million to Together In Education schools since 1998!  When you shop Harris Teeter brands, a percentage of your purchase is donated to our school that your VIC card is linked to. There are NO LIMITS to how much our school can earn.  Follow this link for more information.

Upcoming Vaccine Clinics

The Howard County Health Department is offering FREE vaccine clinics in the upcoming weeks.  All these events will offer Tdap, MCV4, MenB, HPV, and varicella for FREE (regardless of insurance status).  Patients must be the appropriate age to receive the vaccine and must be 18 or younger.  Parent or legal guardians are required to give consent for anyone younger than 18.  No advance registration needed, we’ll just do paper consent and admin forms on-site.  Bringing immunization history is helpful but not required.  Here are the dates for walk-up back-to-school clinics.

End of Year Reminders From the Health Room

  • End of Year Medication

If your child has medication in the Health Room at school, please be sure to pick it up during the last week of school. Please contact the school Health Room to arrange a time to pick up medication.

Medication is not able to be kept in the Health Room over the summer and may be discarded if not picked up by the last day of school. Please contact the school Health Room to arrange a time to pick up medication.

  • Annual Health Checkups

As you schedule your child/ren to have an annual health checkup, please remember to send completed forms to the Health Room.

  • Immunization Reminder

If your child/ren receive any immunizations, please be sure to provide a copy to the Health Room. Each year we must submit data to the State showing we are in compliance with student immunizations. If all required immunizations are not complete your child/ren may be excluded from school within the first few weeks of returning for the 2022-2023 school year until immunizations are updated.

  • Medications in Health Room for 2022-2023 school year

Students who require medications to be kept in the Health Room for 2022-2023 school year, both Prescription and Over the Counter Medications, will need to have new orders provided to the Health Room. New orders must be dated on or after July 1,2022. We are unable to use orders from the 2021/22 school year for next year. Medication orders expire at the end of the school year. ALL MEDICATIONS, BOTH PRESCRIPTION AND OVER THE COUNTER REQUIRE A NEW MEDICATION ORDER EACH YEAR. Please note HCPSS Health Rooms do not provide any medication to students unless provided by the family with a proper order form.

Summer Meals

HCPSS will continue providing free meals to all HCPSS students and any children aged 18 and under, weekdays from June 27-Aug. 12, with the exception of July 4 and 19. Full details, including site locations, can be found online.
