Note from Mr. Davis 2/28/18

As part of our celebration of African American History Month, Guilford students have spent time learning about the history of Guilford. Depending on the grade, the students either read an article or viewed a slide show that shared the history of Guilford.   Guilford started as a one room school house in 1876, transitioned to a bigger two room school in the 1920s, which still stands at the corner of Guilford and Mission Roads.  Drive by and check it out!  Our current school house was constructed in 1954.   In 1996, 4th and 5th grade students created a mural that showcased the one room school house and surrounding areas.  We are excited that we were able to get this beautiful mural reframed and rehung proudly as you enter the school.

Members from the Howard County Center for African American Culture came and shared what life was like in a one room school house.  We learned a lot of great history.  Check out the HCPSS Facebook page for more information:  https://www.facebook.com/HoCoSchools/posts/920721111428713

We are collecting stories:  Did your family attend Guilford in the past?  We are looking to collect stories of any family who attend Guilford either in the one room school house or Guilford Elementary of the past, prior to 1970.  We are encouraging any family to talk with their parents, grandparents, or neighbors to capture ideas/examples of stories from their time at Guilford.  Feel free to record these stories by clicking on the link:  https://goo.gl/forms/qmz1woqRZQ1s34sN2.
